How to Achieve Uberman Sleep and Increase Your Energy

[ad_1]

Sleep deprivation is often something that can drag us all down. Attending a work meeting, or an afternoon class can put anyone to sleep. In an attempt to overcome sleepiness, many people consume energy drinks, iced coffee and sugared sodas.

Taking short periodic naps is called polyphasic sleeping, or Uberman sleep due to the amount of energy it provides and they way it makes you feel. The Uberman part likely is derived from Friedrich Nietzsche’s ideas on the progress of man. Sleeping a full eight hours is often not enough for us, and can leave us feeling drained in the middle of the day. These periodic naps can be seen as power naps that provide boosts of energy. Sometimes longer naps can leave people feeling like they are still tired.

The idea behind polyphasic sleeping, or Uberman sleep encourages the maintenance of energy throughout the day. As the day progresses, you will find yourself more energized, and will have more time to do the things you need to do. Amongst our busy schedules, it is hard to finish all of our errands, and we often find ourselves wishing there were more hours in a day. This method of sleeping may seem unrealistic, and unnatural at first. However, once your body gets used to it, it’s easier to sustain the routine in your daily lives.

This new sleep cycle cannot be obtained overnight. It will take a while for your body to get used to it, and it is important not to shock your system. Everyday, incorporate more 20 minute naps, and slowly shorten the hours you sleep throughout the night. Once your body adjusts to this new routine, you will find more time for the tasks you otherwise could not finish. This routine will also prevent you from needing caffeine to stay awake.
