Headboards & Footboards – What’s the Difference?
[ad_1]
Headboards and footboards are a great way to add style to a bedroom. Even if you do not need to replace your bed, adding a headboard or a footboard can change the look of the bedroom without having to raid the bank. You can make either of them a focal part of the room, and in many rooms they are the centerpiece.
The use of a head or footboard can bring the theme of the room together.
However, they do have more practical reasons. A headboard can be a comfortable backrest, when sitting up in bed reading or watching television. A footboard was originally designed to stop people slipping off the bottom of their beds.
You can find headboards and footboards in every material, color shape and design. So you do need to get an idea of what you like and what you think would suit the room. An ornate ostentatious design may not look great in a small room, whereas as a simple metal or wooden addition will complement a smaller space.
Footboards can also double up as storage, some designs come with built in shelves, and some even contain a linen box, which can also be used as a seat. The only limitation when it comes to choosing is your imagination.
Here are just some of the choices that are available.
Wooden
A beautiful wooden headboard is a classic feature. A headboard of this natural, durable material will continue to look fantastic over the years as you change the color and style of your bedroom around it. You can choose from pine, beech, oak and many more.
Leather
Leather headboards and footboards look so luxurious and opulent. They will last forever and will not date; in fact the great thing about leather is that it looks better as it ages. You can also wash and treat leather to give it even more shine.
Metal
Metal can look contemporary in a bedroom, and can be a strong design statement. The clean lines of metal can look great in a smaller bedroom where they do not overpower.
Upholstered
The great thing about upholstered is the vast selection of fabrics that you can choose from. You can match these fabrics to your bed linen and curtains. Having a spare set means you can easily change the theme of the room to suit your mood.
Brass.
Brass is an all time classic favorite and can look stunning. Everyone has dreams of sleeping in a large soft brass bed. Brass says romantic. You can get old genuine antique brass headers and footers or new modern designs.
You should consider how your preferred choice fits to the bed. Some are floor standing, some fit to the wall and some need to be attached to the bed itself.
So make sure you are happy with the fitting requirements. Finally, headboards and footboards should come with all the components ready for self-assembly, before you start, check that you have everything that you need to complete the project.
